A 19-year-old man, S Prem, was arrested on Friday in Kilpauk, Chennai, for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 40-year-old woman. The incident took place on Barakka Road as the woman was walking alone.
According to police reports, the accused approached the woman and tried to assault her. However, the woman resisted and raised an alarm, prompting Prem to push her away and flee the scene.
The woman immediately filed a complaint at the Secretariat Colony police station, following which officers launched a prompt investigation. Using the description provided by the victim, police were able to track and arrest the suspect within hours.
S Prem was produced before court and remanded to judicial custody the next day. Authorities are currently checking if the accused has any prior criminal history, and are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas to gather further evidence.
The case has raised fresh concerns over public safety in residential neighborhoods and the swift response of local law enforcement has been commended.
