Ryder Corral, 19, was arrested after allegedly vandalizing a memorial for Charlie Kirk outside the Turning Point USA headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona.
The memorial honored Kirk, the founder of the right-wing group Turning Point USA, who was fatally shot at Utah Valley University last Wednesday. Corral reportedly trespassed and damaged the display of balloons and flowers left by the community.
Witnesses detained Corral until Phoenix police, who were nearby assisting with traffic control, arrived and took him into custody. Video footage shows Corral stomping on the memorial before bystanders intervened, and police quickly handcuffed him. No injuries were reported.
Corral faces multiple charges, including criminal damage and disorderly conduct.
The arrest comes amid Republican calls for action against those allegedly reacting to Kirk’s killing by praising or belittling his memory.
Tyler Robinson, 22, has been charged with capital murder and other offenses related to Kirk’s shooting. Authorities are still investigating his motive.
A large public memorial for Kirk will be held on September 21 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
