A 27-year-old man from Mold has been sentenced to 60 weeks in prison after stealing a car and a van, causing significant damage to both vehicles. Ryan Seaman, of Maes y Dre, Mold, admitted to multiple offences following the thefts over the weekend of January 26, 2024.

Seaman took the car and van from addresses in Pen y Bryn and Hawthorn Avenue in the early hours of Sunday morning. At around 5:30 am, he drove the stolen car to the Esso service station in Mold, where he filled it up with fuel and took alcohol from the shop, making no attempt to pay. When Seaman was confronted, he fled on foot, leaving the damaged car behind.

Earlier, at approximately 4:40 am, Seaman had attempted to use the car owner’s bank card at the same service station, attempting to purchase over £50 worth of items.

At 7:45 am, Seaman was arrested after being found driving the stolen van on Parc Avenue in Mold, which had also been heavily damaged. He was charged with two counts of aggravated vehicle taking, shoplifting, fraud by false representation, and making off without paying for fuel.

Seaman also faced charges for failing to provide a specimen for analysis when stopped by officers, as well as driving without a licence or insurance. He admitted all offences and was sentenced to 60 weeks in prison on January 28. Additionally, Seaman was banned from driving for four and a half years and fined £187.

A 40-year-old Mold man, Ricky Richardson, is also facing charges related to the stolen vehicles. He is accused of being carried in one of the stolen vehicles and a shoplifting offence. He will appear before Mold Magistrates Court on February 28.

Inspector Iwan Jones commented on the case: “Seaman is a prolific offender, and I hope his swift arrest and subsequent sentencing will bring a degree of relief to many in the local community, and particularly the victims involved in these incidents. We take such incidents very seriously and will relentlessly pursue those who cause the most harm.”
