In a significant move against drug trafficking, Fakirganj Police conducted a late-night raid in Dhapanpara village, Dhubri district, leading to the arrest of Rukia Khatun. Acting on a confidential tip-off, the team recovered 18 containers of suspected heroin along with Rs1,09,630 in cash.
The operation, led by Officer-in-Charge Arup Jyoti Roy, included his team and members of the Village Defence Party. The raid was carried out at the residence of Iqbal Hussain, where the contraband and cash were found in Rukia Khatun’s possession. She was immediately taken into custody and brought to Fakirganj Police Station for interrogation.
Authorities believe the seized drugs were intended for distribution in surrounding areas, and Rukia Khatun may be linked to a larger network of peddlers operating across the region. Officer Roy emphasized that the police will continue to intensify efforts against drug trafficking, urging public cooperation in reporting suspicious activities.
The successful raid has been widely welcomed by local residents, who hope it will deter others from engaging in illegal drug trade and protect the youth from addiction. Investigations are ongoing to identify other individuals involved and trace the source of the seized heroin.
