BISMARCK, N.D. — Ruiz, 24, pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to major auto theft rings operating in Colorado. He was convicted of racketeering under the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, as well as aggravated motor vehicle theft, theft of auto parts, and second-degree burglary across three counties—Larimer, Adams, and Broomfield. Ruiz’s criminal activities included stealing and selling vehicles from private citizens, dealerships, and repair shops, along with burglarizing businesses and ATMs throughout the Denver metro area and Denver International Airport.
Attorney General Phil Weiser emphasized the collaboration of law enforcement in breaking up these auto theft rings, noting the significant harm caused to victims and businesses. District Attorney Brian Mason added that the conviction was a critical step in addressing the growing problem of motor vehicle theft in Colorado. Ruiz’s actions, which impacted numerous individuals and communities, were part of larger criminal networks in the state.
