Ruby, also known as Bhabhi Ji, the alleged mastermind behind a large brown sugar supply network spanning several cities in Jharkhand including Ranchi, has surrendered to authorities, police officials confirmed on Monday.
A resident of Mochi Tola in Sasaram, Bihar, Ruby was placed in police custody for three days by Ranchi’s Sukhdev Nagar police last week for questioning related to the illegal drug trade. She was produced in court and subsequently sent to Birsa Munda Central Jail under judicial custody.
For the past six months, Ranchi police had conducted numerous raids attempting to capture Bhabhi Ji, but she had managed to evade arrest repeatedly. Under increasing pressure, she surrendered before a Ranchi court last week. Currently, six cases are registered against her at Sukhdev Nagar police station.
Since January, over ten individuals linked to brown sugar distribution have been arrested by Ranchi police, many of whom identified Bhabhi Ji as their supplier, tracing the source back to Sasaram.
Ruby confessed during interrogation that she manufactures brown sugar herself and runs the network with the support of her husband, brother-in-law, and other relatives. She admitted having prior knowledge of police raids and evading capture by relocating to safe houses.
Her revelations have provided the police with critical information about the supply chain, including raw material sourcing and pricing, which is aiding in a wider crackdown on the drug network.
