Ron Mitchell and Accomplices Sentenced for US Couple’s Death

Grenada trio convicted of manslaughter and violent crimes

by Sophia Bennett

Three prisoners from Grenada have been sentenced for the killing of an elderly U.S. couple after hijacking their catamaran last year. Ron Mitchell, considered the ringleader, received two life sentences and must serve at least 50 years before parole eligibility. His accomplices, Atiba Stanislaus and Trevon Robertson, were sentenced to 56 and 60 years respectively.

The sentences were handed down on July 30, 2025, at the High Court in St George’s by Justice Paula Gilford. Mitchell was also sentenced to additional years for robbery with violence, kidnapping, and housebreaking.

Stanislaus, 27, received 30 years for each manslaughter count, alongside significant sentences for rape, housebreaking, kidnapping, and robbery with violence. Robertson was sentenced to 28 years for manslaughter and other related violent offenses.

The men had escaped custody in February 2024 while awaiting trial for multiple violent crimes including rape, attempted rape, and robbery. The case has highlighted ongoing concerns about violent crime and prisoner security in Grenada.
