A 25-year-old suspect, Ron-Keitt Smith, has been arrested in connection with a shooting that left a woman seriously injured earlier this month in Rochester.
According to the U.S. Marshals Service, Smith was taken into custody Thursday evening by a joint law enforcement task force. The operation included multiple agencies such as the FBI, ATF, DEA, Rochester Police Department, New York State Police, and others. The arrest occurred at the intersection of Dewey Avenue and Felix Street.
Smith had been wanted by police for a March 7 shooting on Dayton Street that injured a 23-year-old woman. She was initially reported in critical condition but has since stabilized.
Authorities said that at the time of his arrest, Smith was in possession of a loaded handgun and crack cocaine. The firearm was reported stolen from North Carolina, and officials also noted he was wanted for a parole violation.
Smith now faces multiple charges, including second-degree assault, second-degree attempted murder, and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon related to the shooting.
In addition, he is facing further charges tied to the items recovered during his arrest, including second- and third-degree weapon possession and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
