In a swift breakthrough, Rohit Raikwar, a resident of Devguradia, was arrested for the murder of cloth merchant Sachin Chopra in Indore’s Kalani Nagar area over a gold investment dispute.
According to DCP Zone-1 Vinod Kumar Meena, Sachin Chopra was found strangled to death in his second-floor room on March 5. The incident occurred after an argument between the two over unreturned investment funds. The accused had reportedly given Sachin a large sum to invest in gold, but when the money was not returned, Raikwar allegedly killed him.
The case posed a significant challenge as Sachin’s mother only vaguely recalled a male visitor on March 4, unable to identify him. Led by Aerodrome police station in-charge Tarun Singh Bhati, the investigation team examined over 300 CCTV cameras, eventually identifying Rohit Raikwar as the suspect.
During interrogation, Raikwar confessed that Sachin had assured him of profits from gold trading. He had raised funds from others and handed them to Sachin. As pressure mounted from those demanding returns, and with Sachin failing to provide a clear explanation, Raikwar allegedly lost control and strangled him.
Police arrested Raikwar within 48 hours of the crime, and further investigation is ongoing.
