A 20-year-old youth from Rajasthan, identified as Rohit, has been arrested for allegedly stealing over 60 sovereigns of gold jewellery from a showroom in Saidapet, Chennai.
According to the police, the complaint was filed by Sundar, the owner of a jewellery store on Bazaar Road. Rohit had been employed at the shop and was entrusted with handling jewellery during closing hours. However, on Friday night, he allegedly stole a stash of gold bracelets while transferring items to the locker.
His absence on Saturday raised suspicion, prompting Sundar to review the CCTV footage, which clearly showed Rohit committing the theft. Acting on the complaint, police tracked him down and arrested him.
The stolen jewellery has been partially recovered, and further investigation is underway to identify if he had any accomplices or prior criminal history.
