by Amelia Crawford

On December 30, 2024, at approximately 3:29 p.m., Marshalltown Police located a suspect with multiple active warrants at Casey’s on North 3rd Avenue. Officers attempted a traffic stop in the 800 block of North 3rd Avenue, but the suspect fled, initiating a pursuit. The subject, later identified as 33-year-old Rogelio Sanchez-Sanchez, managed to reach his residence at 206 Palmer Drive, where he shut the garage door as officers arrived.

A search warrant was obtained, and officers, assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office K9 Unit and an indoor drone, executed the warrant. After clearing the first floor and basement, the K9 alerted to a wall, leading officers to a hidden room in the basement. The suspect was found inside and taken into custody.

Sanchez-Sanchez faces several charges, including:

Eluding (2nd or Subsequent Offense – Class “C” Felony)
Driving While Barred (Aggravated Misdemeanor)
Violation of a Protective Order
Four Counts of Probation Violation (Warrants)
Traffic Violations
He was transported to the Marshall County Jail. The Marshalltown Police Department was assisted by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office and UnityPoint Health of Marshalltown.

(A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.)
