BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) – A Birmingham man is facing multiple charges across two Alabama counties after stealing a vehicle and leading police on two separate high-speed chases on Sunday, June 29.
According to the Hoover Police Department, officers were dispatched at 8:46 a.m. to Lemon Mint Circle after a woman reported that her boyfriend, Rodricus Cortez Bradberry, 31, stole her vehicle after dropping her off at work.
Police spotted the stolen car near Highway 31 and I-459, prompting a pursuit that continued through I-459 North and I-20 West into Birmingham, with multiple law enforcement agencies joining.
During the chase, officers learned the caller’s friend was still inside the vehicle. The friend later jumped from the car near 1st Avenue North and 64th Street, suffering non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
Investigators determined Bradberry, the car owner, and her friend had traveled together earlier that day. An argument over Bradberry using the vehicle escalated, and he allegedly pushed the victim out of her own car before driving off.
Later that evening around 7:25 p.m., Birmingham Police officers spotted the stolen vehicle at Wilson Road and Oak Avenue. A second pursuit ended with Bradberry’s arrest in Fairfield, near Valley Avenue.
Because the incident spanned two jurisdictions, Bradberry is facing charges in both Jefferson and Shelby counties:
Jefferson County:
(2) Counts of fleeing/attempting to elude law enforcement
Bond: $45,000
Shelby County:
Unauthorized use of a motor vehicle
Third-degree domestic violence
First-degree unlawful imprisonment
Bond: $42,000
Bradberry was initially held at Hoover City Jail before being transferred to both county jails on June 30.
