CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. — A 27-year-old man from Chesterfield County is in custody after authorities say he posted videos and images of cats in distress online in an effort to solicit money from the public.

According to Henrico Police, Rodney Travis Jr. was arrested Sunday, Feb. 15, in connection with what investigators described as an animal cruelty case involving fraud.

Police said they were alerted to the situation on Thursday, Feb. 12, by the Virginia Attorney General’s Office and officers with Chesterfield County Animal Control. With assistance from community members and coordination between agencies, investigators identified the location where the alleged animal cruelty content was created.

Travis was taken into custody at his residence in Chesterfield on Friday, Feb. 13, and transported to Henrico County Jail West.

He is currently facing one count of animal cruelty, though officials indicated additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

Authorities have seized several cats from the property and confirmed that the animals are now receiving proper veterinary care.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact Henrico Police at 804-501-5000.
