Rodney Lamont Evans, a 47-year-old member of the Bloods gang, has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison after a search at his Ahoskie residence uncovered a large quantity of drugs and a firearm.

The investigation began on August 8, 2022, when authorities received information about Evans allegedly distributing narcotics. When law enforcement executed a search warrant at his home, Evans attempted to flee through a window and hide on the roof but was apprehended shortly after.

Inside his residence, authorities seized nearly 360 grams of cocaine, more than five grams of crack, over 1,700 grams of marijuana, a firearm, ammunition, and drug-related materials, including digital scales and packaging materials. Additionally, the investigation revealed that Evans had participated in the sale of machine gun conversion devices, known as “switches,” with another member of the Bloods gang.

Evans, who had prior convictions for indecent liberties with a child and multiple drug offenses, now faces a significant prison sentence for his involvement in drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.

Hertford County Sheriff Dexter Hayes praised the collaborative efforts of local, state, and federal authorities in removing dangerous individuals from the community, emphasizing the importance of protecting citizens and bringing offenders to justice.
