Roberto Rangel Faces Sentence for Deadly DWI Crash in Austin

A judge will soon determine the length of prison time for Roberto Rangel, who was involved in a tragic crash that killed two people in Austin. In December 2022, Rangel was driving under the influence when he failed to yield while exiting a parking lot, causing a fatal collision with a motorcycle.

The crash, which occurred on December 18 around 2:40 a.m. on E. Ben White Boulevard, claimed the lives of motorcyclist Mark Narvaez, 23, and passenger Kate Garcia, 22. Both victims died at the scene.

Rangel, 51, already has a history of six previous DWI charges, making this incident all the more devastating for the victims’ families. Despite the severity of the crash and his prior offenses, Rangel was released on bond, sparking frustration from the grieving families who feel justice is delayed.

Now, with the sentencing approaching, the families hope the court will hold Rangel accountable for his actions, as he faces charges for the deaths of Narvaez and Garcia. The judge will decide his sentence soon.
