Robert Torain Arrested After Allegedly Stealing iPhone at Liquor Store
Madisonville, KY – A man is behind bars after allegedly stealing an iPhone 12 from a liquor store and attempting to flee the scene.
According to the Madisonville Police Department, officers responded to the Beer, Wine, and Liquor Outlet on Sunday following a theft complaint. Store surveillance footage showed Robert Torain taking a phone that had been left on top of the ATM and walking out.
The store manager repeatedly called the stolen phone. At one point, Torain answered before the device was turned off.
Using Find My iPhone, the manager tracked Torain and arranged to meet him in a nearby Family Dollar parking lot. Torain claimed he would return the phone but then disappeared.
Police were notified and located Torain shortly afterward. When confronted, he denied wrongdoing, stating that the victim “left the phone lying there” and it was their own fault.
Torain was arrested and taken to the Hopkins County Jail, where he now faces multiple charges:
Theft by Unlawful Taking or Disposition
Alcohol Intoxication in a Public Place
Burglary, 3rd Degree
Tampering with Physical Evidence
Authorities confirmed that Torain was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
