MWONGORISI, Kenya – Police have arrested Robert Pokea Sarudi (43), Bismark Ondiek Sarudi (40), and Lameck Ogindo Osoro (27) for allegedly forcing a woman to participate in traditional rituals and assaulting her after she refused.
The distressing incident took place on March 21, 2025, during the funeral of the victim’s late ex-husband, who had tragically died in a road accident.
Ambushed at Funeral and Accused of Causing Death
The woman, who had been separated from her ex-husband for years, was contacted by her mother-in-law and urged to bring her children to the funeral. However, upon arrival, she was ambushed by in-laws who insisted that she partake in burial customs, including throwing soil into the grave.
When she refused, the suspects allegedly attacked her, inflicting injuries while accusing her of being responsible for her ex-husband’s death.
Suspects Arrested, Investigation Continues
Authorities launched an investigation, leading to the arrest of the three suspects in Mwongorisi sub-location. They are currently detained at Kiambere Police Station while awaiting formal charges.
Police are now working to identify and apprehend additional suspects involved in the attack. The victim is receiving medical attention, and authorities have vowed to bring justice to those responsible.
