Robert Monroe Jones, 59, of Wildwood, and Chantel Coleman, 50, of Dade City, were arrested on Saturday for attempting to steal $1,165 worth of merchandise from Walmart at Buffalo Ridge Plaza in The Villages. The two suspects were caught concealing the merchandise in bags and attempting to leave the store without paying.

When store personnel confronted them, Jones tried to create a distraction by arguing about a receipt, giving Coleman an opportunity to flee. However, both individuals were apprehended before they could escape.

They were charged with theft and booked into the Sumter County Detention Center. Jones posted a $2,500 bond and was released, while Coleman was held without bond due to holds from Lake County and Pasco County.
