LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas (KWTX) —
A man and woman have been charged with robbery after allegedly deceiving and assaulting a man who had just lost all his possessions in a car fire.
The incident occurred on April 17, when the victim’s vehicle caught fire, destroying all of his belongings. A Lacy Lakeview police officer responded to the scene and later dropped the man off at the QuikTrip on 951 N. Loop 340, offering him $50 to help with his immediate needs.
Surveillance footage shows the victim sitting on a bench outside the store when two suspects, Robert Evans and Kristal Murnahan, arrived—Evans on a moped and Murnahan on a bicycle.
Murnahan initiated a conversation with the victim while Evans remained inside the store. He later came out and joined the conversation. According to police, the suspects convinced the victim to leave the QuikTrip with them, offering to help him get a hotel room in exchange for the $50 he’d been given by the officer.
Instead of helping, Evans allegedly assaulted the victim in a secluded area near Hogan Lane, then fled with Murnahan—taking the cash and leaving the victim without assistance.
Both Evans and Murnahan have been arrested and formally charged with robbery.
