RMP Doctor 2 Others Held in Gurugram Fraud Case

Digital arrest scam used fake court threats, say police

Three individuals, including a registered medical practitioner (RMP) doctor and a property dealer, have been arrested in connection with a digital arrest fraud case that involved threats of legal action under money laundering laws, Gurugram police said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when a local resident filed a complaint on May 14, alleging that he received a call from someone claiming to be a Telecom Department official. The caller accused him of using his mobile number for illegal activities and claimed that a case had been registered at Colaba Police Station in Mumbai.

Later, the call was transferred to a man impersonating a police officer. He alleged that the victim’s Aadhaar card was linked to a money laundering case and that a warrant had been issued. The scam escalated on April 16, when the victim was contacted via WhatsApp and shown a fake court warrant during a video call. A person pretending to be a judge was also present, further pressuring the victim into transferring money out of fear.

The Cyber Crime (West) Police Station registered an FIR, and on June 27, the police arrested Ramcharan (33), an RMP doctor who operates a clinic in Nangloi, Delhi.

Two other accused, Abhishek (23), a property dealer from Lucknow, and Shipra Jaiswal (35) from Gorakhpur, were arrested in Lucknow on Monday.

During the investigation, police uncovered a money laundering chain tied to the scam. The fraudulently used bank account was initially held by Rajiv Jha, who sold it to Ganesh for Rs50,000. Ganesh sold it to Manish, earning a Rs32,000 commission. The account was then passed from Manish to Ramcharan for Rs58,000.

Ramcharan later sold the same account to Abhishek for ₹20,000, who then passed it to Shipra Jaiswal for Rs15,000. Eventually, Shipra sold it again for Rs30,000.
