In a continuing crackdown on drug trafficking, police arrested a man with 100 grams of heroin during a routine bus check on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Rishipal Singh, a resident of Zirakpur in Mohali district.
Acting on a tip-off, the Samrala police intercepted the accused while checking suspicious persons and vehicles. A frisk during the inspection of a passenger bus led to the recovery of heroin from Singh’s possession.
Sub-Inspector Nitish Chaudhary, SHO of Samrala police station, confirmed that Singh has a history of drug-related offenses, with three previous cases under the NDPS Act — all involving commercial quantities. The first case dates back to 2006.
During interrogation, Singh reportedly confessed that he procured the heroin from a border area in Ferozepur. Authorities are now investigating the supply chain to identify the source and the intended recipients of the consignment.
A case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at the Samrala police station. Further inquiries are underway.
