A 21-year-old domestic help named Rinku has been arrested for allegedly stealing jewellery and cash worth several lakhs from his employer’s residence in New Delhi. Officials confirmed his arrest from his rented accommodation in Sangam Vihar on Saturday.
The accused, originally from Sitapur district in Uttar Pradesh, was caught following a complaint from Satinder Singh Chhabra, who accused Rinku of theft and fleeing the house. The case was registered at Barakhamba Road police station, and the investigation was promptly initiated.
Police, while analyzing Rinku’s mobile phone, uncovered suspicious UPI transactions involving large sums of money. Upon interrogation, Rinku admitted to repeated thefts at the complainant’s home.
Valuables recovered from his residence included five rings, four studs, a kada, two gold-colored bracelets, three 50-gram silver biscuits, and a 100-gram silver biscuit. Additionally, Rs 56,800 in cash and various foreign currencies such as Euro, Dirham, Ringgit, and Singapore Dollar notes were seized.
Rinku had previously worked in Rajouri Garden before joining the Chhabra family through a placement agency in Kasturba Gandhi Marg. However, motivated by greed, he started stealing valuables from the household.
During questioning, Rinku reportedly admitted to sending part of the stolen goods to his hometown. Police are working to recover the remaining items and are also investigating his involvement in similar thefts in other homes.
