PIKE COUNTY, Ill. — Richard A. Wilson, 47, of Springfield, Illinois, has been arrested in connection with a multi-state theft ring responsible for stealing off-road vehicles, trailers, and lawn equipment across Illinois and Missouri.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department reported a series of thefts occurring between April 28 and July 22, 2025, involving side-by-side utility vehicles, dirt bikes, zero-turn mowers, and trailers stolen from homes and businesses in Baylis, Barry, Hull, Rockport, Pleasant Hill, and Pittsfield.

Chief Deputy Zack Orr led the investigation, which involved analyzing surveillance footage, electronic evidence, and collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies across Illinois and Missouri. The investigation linked these thefts to similar incidents in Piatt, Fayette, Franklin, and Tazewell counties, as well as jurisdictions in Missouri.

On August 4, 2025, with help from the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office, Wilson was arrested on warrants from Pike County for Theft Over $10,000 and Morgan County, Missouri for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle.

A search warrant executed on August 7 at Wilson’s Springfield residence uncovered electronic devices and other evidence connected to the thefts. Authorities are reviewing extensive forensic data and have already recovered several stolen vehicles.

Chief Deputy Orr emphasized that the case remains active, with ongoing efforts to recover stolen property and anticipate further arrests.

The Pike County Sheriff’s Department thanked partnering agencies and reminded that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
