Richard Hiscock jailed 20 months for attempted Basingstoke robbery

Man threatened shop staff demanding cash, fled when interrupted

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. – Richard Hiscock, 30, of Attwood Close, Basingstoke, has been jailed for 20 months after pleading guilty to attempted robbery at a local Betfred shop.

On Monday, January 20, Hiscock entered the Betfred store on London Street and threatened a female staff member, demanding cash from the till. His attempt was interrupted when a man entered the shop, causing Hiscock to flee without stealing anything.

Following investigations, Hiscock was arrested on January 23 and charged with attempted robbery. He appeared before Winchester Crown Court, where he was sentenced on Tuesday, March 18.

A/Police Sergeant Charlotte Warhurst, of the Basingstoke Neighbourhood Policing Team, emphasized the seriousness of the crime and reassured the public: “No one should be made to feel threatened… We take all reports of criminality and violence seriously and will continue to take action.”
