Shelby Township, MI — September 5, 2025
A Michigan man, Richard Alan Cook Jr, was arrested after allegedly violating a Personal Protection Order (PPO) by stalking his ex-girlfriend and nearly running her off the road, according to Shelby Township Police.

The incident unfolded on August 29, when the woman entered the Shelby Township Police Department to report that her ex-boyfriend had followed her and attempted to force her off the road. While she was speaking to officers, Cook called her cellphone, demanding to speak with her.

A police sergeant took the phone and instructed Cook to stop contacting the woman. In response, Cook reportedly threatened self-harm.

Officers located him shortly after, parked in his vehicle near the woman’s home. During the traffic stop, Cook denied having recent contact with her, despite having just called her in front of police.

Police conducted a search of his vehicle and reportedly discovered cocaine.

On September 3, Richard Alan Cook Jr was formally charged with:

Aggravated stalking

Possession of a controlled substance

Malicious use of telecommunications

Cook was given a $35,000 bond and remains under investigation for potential additional violations related to the PPO.

Police are reminding the public that violations of personal protection orders are serious criminal offenses, especially when they involve threats or repeated contact.
