SOLEDAD, Calif. — A man was arrested after authorities say he drove a stolen vehicle to a court hearing for a separate auto theft case.
Members of the Multi-Agency Detail Combating Auto Theft (MADCAT) task force took 41-year-old Ricardo Otero into custody on March 24 outside the Salinas Courthouse.
Investigators said Otero arrived at the courthouse in a vehicle reported stolen out of San Jose. Deputies observed him and made contact as he exited the car and headed to a scheduled court appearance related to a pending auto theft case.
Otero was arrested without incident and taken to the Monterey County Jail.
He faces charges including unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle, committing a felony while released on bail or his own recognizance, and driving with a suspended license.
Authorities continue to emphasize the importance of coordinated efforts like MADCAT in addressing repeat auto theft offenses.
