Rhonda Whitfield Arrested in Kinston Domestic Stabbing

Woman charged after stabbing partner, assaulting officer

KINSTON, N.C. — A woman was arrested Thursday, Jan. 15, following a domestic-related stabbing that left a man seriously injured, according to the Kinston Police Department.

Officers responded around 9:18 a.m. to a report of a stabbing at a residence on the 1500 block of Morningside Drive. Upon arrival, they found Tyrelle Williams, 43, with a stab wound to the chest. Williams received treatment at the scene before being transported to ECU Health for further care.

Authorities identified the suspect as Rhonda Whitfield, 49, who was reportedly in a dating relationship with Williams at the time of the incident. During her arrest, Whitfield assaulted a police officer.

Whitfield has been charged with:

Attempted first-degree murder

Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury

Domestic violence-related crime

Assault on a police officer

She remained in custody Thursday at the Kinston Police Department and is expected to be formally booked into Lenoir County Jail as the investigation continues.
