Rhonda Anderson Death Now Treated as Murder After 25 Years

Cold case reopened over bathtub death in Northampton

by Amelia Crawford

The death of a woman found in her bathtub 25 years ago is now being treated as murder following new developments in the case.

Rhonda Anderson, 29, was found dead at her home in Hembury Place, Northampton, on 8 July 2000. At the time, a coroner ruled her death accidental, with reports suggesting she had been electrocuted after a radio fell into the bath.

Northamptonshire Police have now confirmed that new information uncovered this summer has led detectives to re-examine the circumstances surrounding Rhonda’s death. A formal murder investigation has been launched, led by officers from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team.

Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison has appealed for anyone who knew Rhonda or had insight into her life at the time to come forward. She said investigators are particularly keen to hear from people aware of Rhonda’s relationships or any concerns she may have shared.

DCI Harrison acknowledged the significant passage of time but said even small details could prove crucial. She urged people to contact police regardless of whether they still live in the area, stressing that every piece of information could help identify who was responsible.

She added that the reopening of the case has come as a shock to Rhonda’s family, who are being supported by specially trained officers and have requested privacy during what remains a difficult time.
