A local restaurant owner, Ruhul Amin, was arrested on Monday in connection with a theft in Meherpur’s Jilani Chowdhury Lane. CCTV footage reportedly captured Ruhul near the crime scene, prompting residents to detain him and hand him over to police.
Originally from Hailakandi, Ruhul had been renting a place in Jilani Chowdhury Lane while running a restaurant in Silchar. During a search of his rented accommodation, police recovered fake currency, a set of lock-breaking tools, and several master keys, believed to be used in multiple break-ins.
Ruhul is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Authorities are also examining whether he is part of a larger theft and counterfeiting network.
