Two drug peddlers were arrested on Tuesday for allegedly smuggling smack, with police seizing narcotics and assets worth nearly Rs9.7 lakh. The confiscated items included 40.70 grams of smack, a white Maharashtra-registered SUV, and an Android mobile phone.
One of the accused, Deepak Singh Raghuwanshi (34), is a repeat offender previously arrested by Basoda Rural Police in Vidisha district for similar charges. Additional DCP (Crime Branch) Shailendra Singh Chouhan said a dedicated team had been deployed to track drug traffickers operating in the city.
Acting on a tip-off about a man waiting to sell smack near Agrawal Hotel at TRT Govindpura, the Crime Branch team reached the spot and spotted a white SUV. The man inside identified himself as Deepak Raghuwanshi, a resident of Ganj Basoda, Vidisha.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a plastic pouch containing a mud-coloured powder, which Deepak admitted was smack. He further revealed that he sourced the drug from Hemraj Meena, a resident of Motipura near Chhabra, Rajasthan, and had been preparing small packets to sell in Ganj Basoda, Sironj, and surrounding areas.
Police said investigations are underway to trace his supplier network and other accomplices involved in the illegal trade.
