GROTON, CT — State Representative Aundré Bumgardner was arrested early Sunday morning on charges of reckless driving and driving under the influence (DUI), according to the Groton Town Police logs.

Authorities say Bumgardner was taken into custody around 2:30 a.m. on Gold Star Highway. Following his arrest, House Speaker Matt Ritter announced that Bumgardner has been suspended from all committee and leadership assignments indefinitely.

Bumgardner, who represents Groton and Stonington, also served as the assistant majority leader of the House Democratic Caucus. In a statement, Ritter emphasized that the lawmaker understands the seriousness of his actions and must work to regain the trust of his constituents and colleagues.

While Bumgardner acknowledged the incident, police have not released further details regarding his arrest.
