WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP, Pa. (WOLF) — A woman has been arrested following a dangerous high-speed chase that stemmed from a reported theft at a local Walmart.
According to the Wilkes-Barre Township Police Department, 31-year-old Rebecca Collins Wells and her accomplice, Mark Anthony Parker, 38, were caught by Walmart Loss Prevention under-ringing merchandise before fleeing the store in a red Pontiac G6.
Police quickly located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. Wells, who was driving, initially complied but then fled the scene, initiating a high-speed pursuit. Officers reported that she drove recklessly — running red lights, entering oncoming traffic, and speeding through busy intersections along Coal Street and Wilkes-Barre Boulevard. Due to safety concerns, the pursuit was temporarily called off.
Wells was later spotted on North Washington Street, where officers were able to stop the vehicle and arrest her without further incident.
The investigation confirmed that both Wells and Parker were involved in the Walmart theft. Parker had exited the vehicle with the stolen goods during the pursuit but later turned himself in to authorities. Video surveillance confirmed the merchandise he carried was from Walmart.
Charges:
Rebecca Collins Wells: Fleeing and eluding police, theft, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and additional related charges. She was arraigned and held on $25,000 bail.
Mark Anthony Parker: Retail theft.
Police say the stolen merchandise was recovered, and the case remains under investigation.
