RCMP are searching for 22-year-old Austin Castel in connection with a shooting incident that occurred on Saturday in the Mathias Colomb Cree Nation, located in northern Manitoba. The shooting, which injured a 36-year-old man, led to an arrest and the issuance of an arrest warrant.
The incident took place early Saturday morning, around 4 a.m. Pukatawagan RCMP responded after a 36-year-old man arrived at the local nursing station with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The victim told police that he had been offered a ride by a male inside a vehicle that also contained four other individuals. A dispute ensued during the ride, which resulted in the victim being shot. Despite his injury, the victim was able to escape the vehicle and seek safety.
Shortly after, a second shooting victim, a 43-year-old man, also arrived at the nursing station with a non-life-threatening gunshot injury. However, this individual was uncooperative with the RCMP, and no further details were provided about the circumstances of his injury.
RCMP arrested a 16-year-old boy at a residence in the community in connection with the first shooting. The teen faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, and obstruction of justice.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Austin Castel, who is believed to be involved in the shooting. Authorities continue to investigate the incident, and they are urging anyone with information to come forward.
