In a major breakthrough in the Rs2.88-crore fake government job scam, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has arrested Ravindra More, one of the key accused in the case.
Officials said that More was taken into custody during questioning at the EOW office and is scheduled to be produced before the court later today.
This arrest follows the earlier detention of Nilesh Rathod (35), a resident of Barshi in Solapur district, who allegedly posed as an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer to cheat job aspirants. Rathod was apprehended on October 10 for posing as a Deputy Secretary with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) and duping 36 candidates by promising them lucrative government posts, including positions as Income Tax Inspectors and Assistants.
Investigators revealed that Rathod collected large sums of money from unsuspecting aspirants under the pretext of securing them government employment. The EOW is now pursuing leads to identify other members of the racket and to recover the defrauded amount.
Authorities described the scam as a sophisticated operation targeting job seekers desperate for public sector employment, highlighting the growing threat of employment-related frauds in the digital age.
