A disturbing crime in Sohna, Haryana came to light on July 24 when police discovered the lifeless body of a woman, later identified as Sangeeta, inside her apartment at HCBS Sports Ville Society. According to a Haryana Police spokesperson, Sangeeta was found on her bed with a gamchha (traditional cloth scarf) around her neck and blood visible from her ears and nose.
The deceased, originally from Dhani Balot village in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district, had been living in a flat with Ravindra, a Haryana Police constable. Forensic and fingerprint experts examined the scene, recovering two mobile phones, a charger, and a phone cover. Her body was sent for post-mortem and later handed over to her family.
At the mortuary in Gurgaon, Sangeeta’s brother submitted a written complaint. He revealed that Sangeeta was the widow of Manoj, an Army personnel who died in a road accident over two years ago. The couple shared a three-year-old child.
After Manoj’s death, Ravindra, a resident of Dhani Baya Wali in Mahendragarh district, allegedly misled Sangeeta with promises of helping her get a job as a compensation for her husband’s death. Over time, he moved in with her and the two began living together.
Tensions reportedly escalated in recent months as Sangeeta began reconnecting with others. Her family claims Ravindra threatened them with false charges when they objected to the relationship. Just days before her death, Sangeeta had gone out with acquaintances, and on the day of the incident, she called her cousin via WhatsApp to request a new phone, alleging Ravindra was spying on her conversations.
Based on the complaint, Sohna City Police registered a case. Sub-Inspector Vinay from the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Sohna, led the operation to arrest Ravindra, who was caught on Palwal Road on Friday.
During interrogation, Ravindra allegedly admitted to the murder, revealing that jealousy and anger over Sangeeta’s recent associations triggered a violent argument. In a fit of rage, he strangled her using a gamchha. After committing the crime, he fled to Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, and later to Jaipur before being traced and arrested.
Ravindra had joined the Haryana Police as a constable in 2017 and was recently assigned to the Emergency Response Vehicle unit in Palwal.
Police are continuing their investigation.
