On April 29, Bhandup police arrested a man, Ravi Rameshwar, after a dramatic chase lasting 1.5 kilometers. Ravi, who was wanted for multiple house-breaking cases, was caught by the police following a routine night patrol. A total of nine cases have been linked to his criminal activities.
The first case emerged on March 27 when Ruchira Rane, a 31-year-old resident, reported a theft at her home in Bhandup. She stated that an unknown intruder had stolen Rs 25,000 in cash and a gold chain worth Rs 3,000 from her residence.
Police began investigating the case under the guidance of Zone 7 DCP, Vijaykant Sagar. A team of officers reviewed CCTV footage, which led them to identify Ravi Rameshwar as the prime suspect. When police visited his home, he had disappeared, and his phone was unreachable. He was eventually traced to Shirdi, where he had allegedly disguised himself as a participant in a Sai palkhi procession to escape detection.
On the morning of April 29, while on a routine patrol, police noticed Ravi hiding in a narrow lane. As he spotted the officers, he attempted to flee. A police team, led by Police Sub-Inspector Ganesh Sanap, chased him for over 1.5 kilometers through the dark, narrow lanes of Bhandup, finally catching him at around 3:30 am.
Ravi, 39, who also went by the alias Ramdvar Chauhan, confessed to his involvement in several thefts, including the one reported by Ruchira. Police said they are working to recover the stolen cash and property. So far, investigations have connected him to nine separate theft cases across various locations, including Bhandup, Vakola, Juhu, and Bandra railway stations.
