Mohali police have arrested a 32-year-old man, Ravi, for allegedly murdering his 28-year-old wife, Radhika, in their rented accommodation in Amb Sahib Colony, Jagatpura, on Tuesday.
The couple, both from Bihar, had been married for only two and a half months and had recently moved into the residence. Ravi worked as a driver for a local acquaintance.
Authorities believe the crime occurred on Monday evening, but it came to light the next day when Ravi’s mother discovered Radhika lying motionless on the bed, covered in blood. A nearby doctor confirmed her death, and police were notified immediately.
Phase 11 SHO Inspector Periwinkle Singh Grewal said initial investigations suggest Ravi attacked Radhika after an argument while under the influence of alcohol. The injuries on her head, face, and neck indicate a blunt weapon was used.
Neighbors reported that Ravi frequently consumed alcohol. Around 6 pm on Monday, he was seen outside with blood on his clothes, carrying what appeared to be an iron rod. Concerned residents alerted the colony head, who tried to contact the police. Although a police team visited that night, the house remained locked, and no one answered.
Ravi’s elder brother Sonu, who is reportedly mentally challenged, was inside the house at the time.
In an unrelated incident, Manpreet Singh, 30, from Manuali village, was found dead on the roadside in Sector 101, Aerocity, on Tuesday. He was identified by his family. IT City Police Station SHO Satinder Singh stated that Manpreet, a truck driver and habitual drinker, was survived by his wife and two children. The postmortem report indicated cardiac arrest as the cause of death.
