In a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF), two women drug peddlers were arrested at Agartala Railway Station for attempting to smuggle dry cannabis (ganja) to Delhi.
The arrested women, Rasuan Devi (25) and Ranju Devi (30), both residents of Katihar district, Bihar, were found carrying 4.405 kilograms of ganja, packed in eight separate packets and concealed in two handbags. According to police sources, the duo was using the railway station as a transit point for drug smuggling.
This is the first reported case of such smuggling at the Agartala Railway Station, but during initial interrogation, both women reportedly confessed to five previous successful attempts to transport cannabis via train.
The seized contraband is estimated to be worth Rs50,000 in the Delhi drug market, according to investigators. A case has been filed under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Agartala GRP Police Station.
Authorities believe the women may be part of a larger smuggling network, and more arrests could follow as the investigation progresses.
