In a significant development, Berhampur Police have arrested Ranjan Parida, the Ganjam district head of the controversial Green India chit fund company, who had been absconding for over 11 years.
Parida, a native of Ralaba village under Hinjili police limits, had been on the run since 2014 following allegations of defrauding investors. He is accused of cheating people out of nearly Rs10 crore by promising high returns through a fraudulent chit fund scheme.
Green India, once operational across various parts of Odisha, came under scrutiny for luring investors and collecting large sums with false assurances of lucrative returns. While the main leader of the company was apprehended years ago, Parida managed to avoid arrest until now.
Acting on a specific tip-off, the Jagannathprasad Police tracked him down and arrested him in Brahmapur.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are underway to uncover the full extent of the scam and identify other individuals involved. Police are working to ensure that those responsible for exploiting public trust are brought to justice.
This arrest marks a critical step toward holding perpetrators of fake financial services scams accountable in Odisha.
