In a major drug bust, the Ranchi police arrested three individuals involved in a drug-trafficking operation with links to Bihar. The arrests were made during a raid in the Sukhdevnagar area on Thursday night.
According to SP (City) Raj Kumar Mehta, the suspects have been identified as Kanhaiyya Kumar (23), Himanshu Thakur (22), and Rakesh Kumar (19). The police recovered 11.48 grams of brown sugar, four mobile phones, a motorcycle, and Rs 2,300 in cash from their possession.
The operation was launched after Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha received intelligence regarding drug sales in Vidyanagar colony. The arrested gang had reportedly been active in the city for over a year, with Kanhaiyya having been involved in at least 10 cases under various sections of the NDPS Act.
Investigations revealed that Kanhaiyya had been sourcing the drugs from a woman referred to as ‘Bhabhi ji’ in Sasaram, Bihar. The drugs were then distributed in various locations across Ranchi, including Vidyanagar, Karam Chowk, Harmu Maidan, Argora, Hinoo, and the Ranchi station, with Himanshu, Rakesh, and other associates involved in the distribution network.
The police continue their investigation as they track down further members of the trafficking syndicate.
