TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) – A 28-year-old Schenectady man, Ramon Cruz, has been arrested in connection with a May 4 shooting in Troy that left a 16-year-old boy wounded.
According to the Troy Police Department, officers responded to the area of Glen Avenue around 4 p.m. and discovered the teen suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and was later released.
Following an investigation, Cruz was identified as the primary suspect. On May 22, law enforcement executed two search warrants in Schenectady, leading to the seizure of three firearms and several high-capacity magazines.
Cruz was arrested and charged with:
Second-degree attempted murder
First-degree assault
Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
He was arraigned in Troy City Court and is currently being held at the Rensselaer County Jail.
The investigation was a coordinated effort involving the Troy Police, Schenectady Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF).
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting and firearm possession.
