Two individuals, Rammehar alias Mehar Singh and Surender alias Pappu, who were arrested in July 2018 for drug possession, have now been sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs2.5 lakh each by the court of Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Yogesh Chaudhry.
According to Deputy District Attorney (DDA) Kuldeep Dhull, both men were arrested by the CIA-2 unit of Panipat police after a naka was set up near Atawala village. A Swift Dzire car with three occupants — Sanjay (deceased), Rammehar, and Surender — was intercepted.
The search, conducted in the presence of DSP Israna Vijender Singh, led to the recovery of:
72 kg of ganja-patti (18 kg in each of four bags)
4.5 kg of poppy husk
All three were arrested and booked under relevant sections. However, co-accused Sanjay died by suicide during trial, and proceedings against him were dropped on January 23, 2025.
After a thorough trial, the court found Rammehar and Surender guilty and handed down the sentence.
