Indiranagar police have arrested four members of the notorious Ramji Nagar gang from Tamil Nadu, which is known for targeting affluent areas to commit thefts. Seven stolen laptops and other valuables worth Rs 5.5 lakh were recovered from the accused.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Murali (38), Senthil (50), Murthy (49), and John (35), who acted as the receiver of the stolen goods. John, the receiver, was responsible for selling the stolen items. All the suspects are from Tiruchirapalli district in Tamil Nadu and would travel to Bengaluru specifically to commit thefts.
The police had been tracking the gang for some time and, acting on a tip-off, deployed a team to the location before the crime could take place. The five accused were found armed with lethal weapons and carrying chilli powder, but two of the criminals managed to escape.
After extensive questioning, the arrested individuals confessed that they would observe vehicles for valuables such as laptops and mobile phones through the windshields. They would then break the windows to steal the items, which they sold to John.
Following the investigation, a police team traveled to Tamil Nadu on August 11 and recovered several stolen laptops. On August 15, they arrested John near the Attibele bus station. The gang is believed to be involved in at least eight previous theft cases across the city. Police successfully recovered seven laptops and other stolen valuables worth Rs 5.85 lakh.
