LAREDO, Texas — A 22-year-old man, Ramiro Campos Jr., was arrested Monday night after allegedly robbing a truck at gunpoint during a drug deal, according to the Laredo Police Department.
Officers responded around 11:30 p.m. on August 4 following a report of a man armed with a handgun near West San Francisco Avenue and Ortiz Street. The caller said the suspect had stolen his 2019 Ram 1500 truck and that he was chasing him.
Police quickly located and detained Campos, finding a handgun in his possession. Investigators revealed that Campos and the victim had met online to arrange a drug purchase. During the meeting, Campos reportedly pulled a gun, robbed the victim, and fled with the vehicle. He later abandoned the truck but was apprehended by officers.
Campos was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a first-degree felony, and remains in custody at Webb County Jail. Authorities continue to investigate the case, including whether the victim may face charges related to the alleged drug transaction.
