In connection with the murder of Gurpreet Singh (29) at his house in Lehal Kalan village, Sangrur, police have arrested three accomplices of the prime accused.
The victim was shot dead around 1:45 am on February 17 by two assailants. Initial investigations led to the arrest of Ramandeep Singh, a native of Talwara, Haryana, and brother of Gurpreet’s wife, who is alleged to have masterminded the killing.
Following Ramandeep’s interrogation, police arrested Ravi on February 20, a friend of Ramandeep, who was reported to have recruited two other individuals to execute the crime. The additional accomplices, Mauji and Harpreet, residents of Sidhani, Haryana, were also arrested the same day.
According to investigators, the murder was motivated by Gurpreet’s marriage to Ramandeep’s sister in June 2024, which allegedly went against the family’s wishes. At the time of the attack, Gurpreet’s wife was present, his mother was sleeping in another room, and his father was away.
Police recovered a .32 bore country-made pistol with magazine, a country-made pistol with a .315-bore empty shell, and the Alto car used during the crime.
The accused are being held under Sections 103(1) for murder and 3(5) for common intention of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and remain in police remand. Authorities expect further revelations as the investigation continues.
