The CID (Crime) branch arrested Raman Patel, the owner of Popular Builders, on March 1, 2025, in connection with a land scam case that dates back nearly four decades. Patel was taken into custody at around 9:45 pm after a thorough investigation into the case, which was registered last year at the CID Crime Ahmedabad zone police station.
The charges against Patel include multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including sections related to forgery and criminal conspiracy (IPC sections 465, 467, 468, 471, 474, and 120(B)).
The case traces back to a complaint filed by Kanu Thakor in August 2024, where he accused Patel and seven others of illegally acquiring his ancestral land in Makarba, Ahmedabad. The land was transferred to the accused in 1986 through forged documents, which included a faked death certificate and a fraudulent thumb impression of Thakor’s grandmother, who was believed to have passed away in 1980—making the land transfer documentation from 1986 legally impossible.
Following the arrest, the CID Crime presented Patel in court, seeking his custodial remand for further investigation. The court granted police custody until March 11, 2025, as the investigation continues.
