In a major case of recruitment fraud, the Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) has arrested at least a dozen individuals, including fake candidates and solvers, for impersonation during the 2023 MP Police Constable Recruitment Exam. The scam has drawn comparisons to the film Munnabhai MBBS, where a character hires someone to take exams on his behalf.
One of the key accused, Ram Roop Gurjar from Morena, was exposed when he reported to the SP office in Alirajpur to assume his constable post. Officials detected discrepancies in his Aadhar and admit card photos. Fingerprint analysis confirmed he was not the one who had taken the test.
Upon interrogation, Gurjar revealed he had paid Rs1 lakh to a solver named Amarendra Singh from Bihar to take the exam on his behalf. Both individuals have since been arrested.
The constable recruitment exam, conducted between August 12 and September 12, 2023, attracted around 7 lakh applicants for 7,090 posts. The scam surfaced when candidates began joining and mismatches in biometric data emerged.
Investigators uncovered a sophisticated operation where Aadhaar biometrics were manipulated to swap fingerprints and facial data. Solvers then appeared for both the written and physical tests. Later, the original biometric data was restored to avoid suspicion during joining.
The probe continues, and authorities have widened the investigation to identify more such fraudulent candidates and insiders who helped tamper with biometric systems.
