In a major breakthrough, the anti-vehicle theft staff of Kaithal Police have busted a gang responsible for a string of farm equipment thefts across the district. Three brothers — Rajpal, Sonu, and Roshan, all residents of Pharal village — were arrested for allegedly stealing wires, motors, and machinery from agricultural fields.
Police recovered two vehicles used in the crimes, a submersible motor fan, tools used to dismantle equipment, 70 kg of copper wire, 12 broken starters, five small cylinders, and various agricultural iron items. With these arrests, police claim to have solved 57 theft cases reported in Pundri, Titaram, Sadar, Kalayat, and Dhand police station areas.
During a press briefing, DSP Sushil Prakash revealed that the arrests followed a complaint by Sandeep, a resident of Kailram village, who reported the theft of wires and machinery from his field on March 9. Acting under the direction of Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kalia, the team apprehended Rajpal and Sonu on March 11 from Khurana Road. Their associate Roshan was later arrested after being identified during interrogation.
Investigations revealed that the trio had been committing thefts since 2024. Rajpal, who previously worked as a scrap dealer, led the operation, identifying valuable farm equipment that could be stolen and resold. The gang reportedly conducted recces during the day and carried out thefts under the cover of darkness.
Police said the successful operation has dealt a major blow to recurring farm thefts in Kaithal and surrounding areas.
