The Special Task Force (STF) of Bihar Police arrested two suspects on Sunday in connection with a high-profile armed bank robbery at ESAF Bank’s Khitola branch in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, earlier this month. Authorities also recovered over 3 kilograms of stolen gold jewellery during the operation.
According to ADG Kundan Krishnan, the robbery occurred on August 11, when unidentified assailants looted 14.873 kg of gold and over Rs5 lakh in cash.
Following the heist, intelligence inputs suggested the suspects had fled to Bihar. A specialized team was formed under DSP Anand Kumar, part of the Bank and Jewellery Cell of Bihar STF. With coordination from Jabalpur police, as well as the SWAT team, District Intelligence Unit, and Special Operations Group, targeted raids were conducted in Gaya.
The arrested suspects have been identified as:
Rajesh Das alias Akash Das
Indrajit Das alias Sagar
Both are residents of Gaya district in Bihar.
ADG Krishnan noted that Rajesh Das has a criminal record spanning Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh, with multiple charges including dacoity, attempted murder, and assault on public servants.
During interrogation, both accused confessed to their role in the Jabalpur robbery, which led to the recovery of 3.112 kg of gold jewellery—valued at over Rs3 crore.
The Jabalpur police will now take over the case for further action and recovery proceedings.
