In a major bust, two employees of a Kerala-based jewellery chain have been arrested for allegedly stealing gold ornaments worth over Rs1.5 crore from the stores where they worked.
The thefts occurred at the Barrackpore and Kankurgachhi outlets and were reported last week. Separate complaints were lodged at Titagarh and Phoolbagan police stations, with Barrackpore falling under the jurisdiction of Titagarh.
The accused, identified as Rajeev Ramanan from the Kankurgachhi store and Kunal Chakraborty from the Barrackpore outlet, were linked to the thefts through CCTV footage and internal audit findings conducted by the company.
Ramanan is alleged to have stolen 684 gm of gold jewellery worth Rs98 lakh, while Chakraborty allegedly took 372 gm worth Rs61 lakh. Police confirmed that a portion of the stolen jewellery has already been recovered.
Authorities have initiated further investigations to trace any additional accomplices and recover the remaining stolen items.
